I like the design of this USB hub but I wish the tail was a bit longer so I could hide the other four ports behind something.

This basic hub works well for many USB devices but if you need a hub to support USB 2.0 devices that require power, like an external hard drive, you need to know that this isn’t a powered hub (no power adapter).

Another great product from Belkin. I have used it when traveling with my laptop to hook up extra equipment. I have used it at home with my desktop for some added USB-2 level ports. It is great as it is very small and can fit in a shirt pocket, backpack, shoulder bag or purse. It provides you with 4 ports, high speed transfer rates and it is plug and play so NO SOFTWARE required which is always a good thing. If you need more ports for any USB device this would be a great one, if you require more ports you have several good choices right here on Amazon.

These are great. Simple, quick, cheap, reliable, fast, and to the point. I had a couple 2GB HP flash drives that I just replaced with 8GB HP flash drives now that the cost has come down quite a bit. I like them because they are streamlined to be easily carried around on your keychain. If you always have your keychain in your pocket, like most people, then you will always have storage space on hand. I have two on my keychain. One is for PortableApps (google: PortableApps), which is a very cool way of being able to run your own applications (Firefox, OpenOffice, Media Players, IM’s, etc) on other people’s computers without having to install anything on their computer. It is completely “take everything with you”. The other one is to boot into a live Linux that runs off the USB drive without touching a HDD. Especially useful when you need to use various utilities to fix someone’s computer: such as HDD partitioners, boot loader managers, ability to mount an NTFS drive and replace a corrupted file that is preventing their Windows from loading, text editing, etc, etc.

Like others have mentioned, the cap does not fit on the drive very tight so it will only be a matter of time before it gets lost. Others have commented about using string (glue or drill a hole) to keep the cap from getting lost. I didn’t even bother. I just took the caps off and threw them into a drawer somewhere. I just carry the drives on my keychain without the caps. They won’t get damaged.

These USB flash drives also have a built-in LED that illuminates during data transfer, so you can be sure that there is no data being transferred before disconnecting them. This will prevent possible file corruption.

It would be nice if HP made these drives in different colors other than black, so you could color code them for your various uses.

These, obviously, aren’t secure (encrypted) USB flash drives, so if you are looking for something that you plan on using with sensitive information (and the possibility of it getting into the wrong hands), look elsewhere.

I wrote a 1.5 gigabyte folder of .jpg pictures from my C drive to this HP flash drive at 7 megabytes per second. I read the same folder from this HP to my C drive at 17 megabytes per second. physically this HP drive is very small. seems like a sturdy plastic large-diameter hole for a lanyard to go thru. no lanyard is provided. the cap has not fallen off yet but the slightest tug pulls the cap off. excellent price.

For the guy who posted above, there is no lanyard included with this flash drive.

I got this a couple days ago. Looking for something that could hold large files to let me switch from a laptop to desktop and back more easily (no more toting a whole external hard drive back and forth).

Other than cost (and this seems to be a good bargain), my other issue when looking at flash drives is speed (also I didn’t want any of that U3 crud). I transferred a 490 MB file to the flash drive in just about 3 minutes. That’s more than fast enough for me.

The flash drive has turned out to be a silver lining too. After I found out I would not be able to install Linux on my desktop, I found that I can actually install various Linux distros to the flash drive and boot from it instead (search for pen drive linux), with plenty of space still to spare.

After opening the package, I popped my DTI/4GB into a USB port and copied a number of relatively small files to it (310 files totalling 5.1 mb). It took a full 2 minutes (that’s 44 kBps), which was slow enough to convince me I’d gotten a lemon (I copied the same files to my old Sandisk Cruzer 1 gb in 20 seconds). After a couple emails to tech support, Kingston advised me to return it for a new one.

The new one arrived quickly, but performed identically to the old one. For kicks, I installed Sandra 2008 and benchmarked the device’s performance. I found that, for small files (512 B), the transfer rate was barely 1 kBps. I contacted Kingston support again, this time providing more details about my testing and the benchmark results I’d gotten out of Sandra. The tech confirmed that this is a low-end device, that the slowness I was experiencing was normal, and that I probably should have sprung for something in their DTS line (too rich for my blood).

Now the good news. If you don’t tend to copy a lot of small files, you’ll probably be perfectly happy with this device. Once the file size gets to about 256 kb, writes to this drive speed up nicely. Reads are always fast. And tech support was exemplary. My only other complaint would be that the cheap plastic case does not inspire confidence.

No matter how you look at it, however, this is not a 5-star item by any stretch of the imagination. Not even for the money.

Me and a friend of mine got one, and we are sad to say, it was a waste of money. It’s not high-speed, it can’t hold more than one thing with transfer without canceling everything out. For example: I had my Logitech Headset plugged inside it, and had my PSP USB Cable in the slot next to it. I went to transfer something off my memory stick, (Which by the way was EXTREMELY slow) and when I exited USB mode, it canceled out my headset too! Do not buy this, honestly! Find something better then this false advertisement!

Worked fine for a couple days, then just stopped working all together. I tried just plugging one device in it and still does not work. Some reviews stated it is not high speed… heck I would take low speed over no speed. Of course not going to return it as shipping would be as much as the product. I was apprehensive when I read all the reviews about U3. I simply wanted a reliable storage device and nothing else. As soon as I connected the usb drive, I removed the U3 launchpad and technology. It took a total of 1 minute and it was done. No more U3 and I have an excellent 4 GB drive for 23 bucks. Same drive sells at retail for over 40. I run windows xp and it was no problem at all to remove the U3. I can see how it may look overwhelming with all the programs/apps, but one or two clicks of a button and it was gone. I highly recommend this drive to anyone looking for a place to store music, docs, pictures, etc….

I have a SanDisk Cruzer U3 drive and it works great. I purchased another with 4 GB to use solely as for ReadyBoost on my Vista computer. Installation was a no-brainer and it immediately offered me an option to use it for ReadyBoost and to apportion the 4 GB between the normal Cruzer US functions and ReadyBoost. I chose to used the majority for ReadyBoost and have been rewarded with better performance. I keep it installed permanently. I’d recommend it highly.
