@jaaLA1991 I meant to say if your PS3 is down, you’re screwed. You cant backup if you put the PS3 in the new console. It would have to be backed up prior. If you never backed up your PS3 Hard drive then you pretty much have to start from scratch because the new one will not be able to use it until you formaT.

is there a way to put a phat ps3 HDD to a slim ps3 without deleting or formatting the data? beacuse my phat ps3 died recently( may it rest in peace) and if i get a slim i would wanna use my old HDD to the slim but i heard that u have to back it up and ten restore it? but what does that mean?? if i put the old HDD to the new slim would it directly format it or hopefully give me the option saying would u like to format it? well plz reply i’ll appreciate it thanx!

ok i did the same thing as you did, but you have to format your HD if you want to change it don’t you?
i did that to get my old datas back but if i format i’ll lose them… is there any way to put the old HD without formating?

@TheMikee1993 Yes that was the first thing I tried and when I turn on the PS3 Slim it appears a message telling that the system software cannot run and to make sure that the media storage have at least the 3.1 system update (my old hard drive have that update) and then the only option is to restart. That is why I want to try it in a PS3 fat model, to see if the same thing happen. Have you try to fix the YLOD with a heat gun?

@TheMikee1993 So far the only answer to fix this problem will be to fix the YLOD again, copy all my saves to a USB Drive, then put them in my new PS3 slim or… just forget about all my saves
. I was thinking to look for a friend that have the PS3 fat and try to put my hard drive in it to see what happens. Anyway I will let you know, if u find something let me know too. Thanks.

@TristanPR77 this is pretty much my problem, i want to know whether i can put the old HDD into the slim and will it still read my old saves.. or will it require resetting, this meaning my old saves gone forever

I was just curious to whether the HDD from your old playstation 3 would fit into the slimline?, and also, can I access the game saves or will I need to reset the HDD? by that I mean wiping it and losing all the data.

My PS3 Fat suffered a YLOD, I fixed it. 2 Months later, the YLOD came againg to claim the live of my PS3 fat but this time I did not repaired, I bought a PS3 slim. Now I have old my games data stored in the PS3 Fat hard drive and I want to save it and use it in my new PS3 Slim. I though I put the the old hard drive in the new PS3 Slim, save the data to a USB Drive, then put the new hard drive and transfer the data from the USB Drive to the new hard drive. Is that possible? Any help please?
