Whenever it comes to back up the data, most of the people find it a cumbersome job. It is so because with so many approaches available to do this task, it really becomes difficult for everyone to choose the perfect one. If you are also facing the same problem, then it would be beneficial for you to back up your all data on an external hard drive. Now, the question emerges how to do this? Well, regarding this concern, given below are some guidelines that will take you through the process of backing up data on external hard drive.

First of all evaluate your requirements. Identify the files and folders that you need to back up. For instance, pictures, documents, videos, favorites etc. Although it doesn’t matter which sort of data you store on an external hard drive, but it would be beneficial to organize them according to their type so that you can easily restore them.

Now, once you have identified the required documents, it’s time for you to acquire the administrative rights of your computer. It is so because whether you are working on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, all of them allow you to copy data only when you are logged in as an Administrator. Now, make sure that your CPU cabinet holds a free USB 2.0 port in order to attach the external hard drive with your computer. In addition make sure that you have saved all the opened applications such as Word, Excel etc.

After meeting all these requirements, it’s time to back up the data on your external hard drive. Basically, there are two ways to do this task including automatic and manual. In automatic backup, Windows itself stores all your settings wherever you desire. The only thing that you need to do is just go to All programs, click Accessories and then look for System tools menu. In system tools you will discover a sub menu entitled as backup. Just run that back up wizard and your operating system will automatically prompt what data you want to back up and where. Simply pick an option according to your convenience and then your required files are written to external hard drive.

In manual process of backing up the data on an external hard drive, you need to identify its letter. It is so because whenever you attach any mass storage device to your computer it is automatically installed by the Windows and assigned drive letter to make it distinct from internal hard drive of your computer. You need to do this process for automatic back up procedure as well. Now, when you come to know that the external hard drive has been allotted a drive letter such as J:, K: etc, you can start copying data into it.

Backing up files on an external hard drive is an easy process, because you can simply drag the files that you require and drop them into it. Usually, the crucial data of every Windows system is located under three to six folders. So, you need to copy all of them if you don’t wish to back up all the data. In case you are using Windows XP or 2000, all you have to do is go to C:Document and settingsAdministrator’s name. And then copy all the folders located into this directory.

And if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, go to C:UsersAdministartor’s Name and drag all the folders situated at this location into your external hard drive.

 ]]>

In the last decade there’s been a revolution in portable storage space available to PC and Mac owners and at the apex of this revolution is the 500GB external hard drive. It is a revolution driven by a technological trend which has itself been fuelled by the explosion in the availability and popularity of graphics (games, tools and design applications), audiovisual applications, video streaming and digital photography. These are space-hungry technologies and the growing demand for them has generated a corresponding demand for a powerful mobile storage solution. At the very forefront of this solution is the 500GB external hard drive or hard disk.

But it’s a solution for whom? In our household it is a necessity for the young mother who takes digital photos and videos of her first born almost every day. By the time he was two years old, she’d run out of PC space but was reluctant to give up any of the memories she was storing there. Enter the 500GB external hard drive solution. Now she is not only able to store those past memories but add to them while freeing up space on her PC for video streaming of her favourite television series.

Another member of the household is a business consultant who needs to be able to physically transport graphic demonstrations, research information and operations reports from her home base to this week’s work site. A handful of small flash drives have now been replaced by a 500GB external hard disk which has proved to be a far happier and more effective solution.

Business professionals, travellers, tertiary students, designers, web developers, downloaders and teenagers – in short, all those who need extra space and/or portability – are those for whom the 500GB external hard drive or hard disk is the most viable, all-purpose solution.

Transportability and capacity, however, are not its only advantages. Originally the size of your average dish washer when first developed back in the 1950s, the 500GB external hard drive is now sleekly compact and stylish. Fully secured in rugged, solid-state casings, the design of these mobile memories is a recommendation in itself because it is mobility with the utmost convenience. Lightweight and slender, they are easily packed away in the side pocket of a lap top carrier or briefcase; some may even be slipped into a purse or shirt pocket.

In a technological world where amateur computer enthusiasts easily outnumber the professionals, the user friendliness of the 500GB external hard drive and hard disk is another huge recommendation of their working design. They are ready to use out of the box with one simple cable to be plugged into any available USB port.

Above all, it is an affordable solution. The technological trends that have fuelled the revolution towards large capacity, portable storage space have also driven down the price. It is welcome news for all computer users – more especially those, like yourself, who need a 500GB external hard drive now!

Whenever it comes to backing up data, most people find this a cumbersome job. It is so because with so many approaches available to do this task, it really becomes difficult for everyone to choose the perfect one. If you are also facing the same problem, then it would be beneficial for you to back up your all data on an external hard drive. Now, the question emerges how to do this? Well, regarding this concern, given below are some guidelines that will take you through the process of backing up data on an external hard drive.

Now, make sure that your CPU cabinet holds a free USB 2.0 port in order to attach the external hard drive to your computer. In addition make sure that you have saved all the open applications such as Word, Excel etc.

In system tools you will discover a sub menu entitled backup. Just run that back up wizard and your operating system will automatically prompt what data you want to back up and where. Simply pick an option according to your convenience and then your required files are written to external hard drive.

In the manual process of backing up data on an external hard drive, you need to identify its letter. It is so because whenever you attach any mass storage device to your computer it is automatically installed by Windows and assigned a drive letter to make it distinct from the internal hard drive of your computer. You need to do this process for automatic back up procedure as well. Now, when you come to know that the external hard drive has been allocated a drive letter such as J:\, K:\ etc, you can start copying data into it.

Backing up files on an external hard drive is an easy process, because you can simply drag the files that you require and drop them into it. Usually, the crucial data of every Windows system is located under three to six folders. So, you need to copy all of them if you don’t wish to back up all the data. In case you are using Windows XP or 2000, all you have to do is go to C:\Document and settings\Administrator’s name\. And then copy all the folders located into this directory.

And if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, go to C:\Users\Administartor’s Name and drag all the folders situated at this location into your external hard drive.

External hard drive is an easy and convenient way of carrying data and information. These hard drives are portable devices and connect to the computer system externally with the help of cables. It provides support for IDE, SCSI and USB along with the other bus standards. During the twentieth century internal hard drives were used for the windows operating systems while external hard drives were mostly used on the Apple Macintosh.

The simpletech external hard drive proves to be the best solution to provide solutions for all types of data transfer. It is known to provide high performance and that too at a low cost per gigabyte. This feature of simpletech hard drive makes it valuable from the perspective of a customer. It is also known to have a repute of good customer satisfaction. The reason that many people are able to identify themselves with this hard drive is due to its stylish look and its small size. The external drive has four light emitting diodes on kept in the form of a circle. The LEDs are used as capacity meter; each of the LED represents 25% of the total capacity of the external drive.

These LEDs symbolize the used storage space. They flash with red color when the free space is less than 10%; this acts as an indication to the user. The LEDs also flash while copying is in progress. The advent of the internet has contributed significantly to the popularity of the external hard drive. The idea to protect the data from viruses and unauthorized access helped in the increased use of external drives. However, the internal structure of both external as well as internal hard drives is almost the same.

NTFS and FAT file systems can run on the simpletech external hard drive. In the operating systems like the windows 2000, windows vista, and windows XP, the disk management console tool can be utilized for the partitioning and formatting of the external hard drives.

The answer to this question is simple and it is a yes. The reason being is because if you spend a lot of time on the internet downloading music and movies or playing games then you use a plethora of internal space. Imagine being able to take all of that and moving it to an external hard drive. External hard drives free up space, which is a great feature. You would have so much room to do even more on the World Wide Web. In addition, external drives are a great idea if you run a small or medium sized home business and want to stay organised.

The HP Ultrium 448 external hard drive is perfect for you if you need more space. This model uses half weight LTO tape drive technology. It compresses its storage capacity and can hold up to 400 GB. This is used with each data cartridge. This is a second-generation model, but the first generation drives and media can be used with this one if that is the case. You should back up your computer in case of an internal failure and this is the perfect model to do just that.

For business owners, the internet and computer is both the best employer. From Tandberg comes an external hard drive kit that uses the LTO technology like the one above. This model is perfect for business owners. The drive itself is black, features the half height technology, and makes business online go smoothly. Its high capacity, fast transfer speeds and backup times that take less than others on the market makes this model highly desirable to computer users and business owners alike.

External hard drives are vital to computer owners. First and foremost, they provide a place for you to back up work and play so that you will never lose that information if a computer failure was to happen. Secondly, a hard drive frees up space on your computer’s internal hard drive. That leaves you with the ability to download more or keep your business matters in an organized folder that you can easily find because it is on a hard drive. If you like, USB sticks and memory cards consider an external hard drive so that it can hold more for you. In addition, it is still portable so you do not have to leave home without it giving you exactly what you need no matter where you are.

You can find a range of hard drives online, where you will also find the best deals on external hard drives and everything for your computer at great deals.

Storage in any form today requires passing certain checks before you could use practically and that is applicable to computers and the like which have overpowered our working styles across the globe. With extensive amount of work taking place most of the times through such electronic gadgets, the need for a storage device, apart from the internal hard drives (the in-built storage) is evident!

Such other drive is known as an external hard drive that stores sensitive data and ensures that the information is kept safe and protected from the environment. Protection includes shielding against privacy and also against various popular viruses such as the Trojans and Spyware. As a result of multiple usage of the same device and viruses as such, there are higher chances of the data getting corrupted. In short, these external drives act as the backup lives of your valuable information.

Advantages of a portable external hard drive

Having penetrated to almost all aspects of our daily lives, multimedia has become a vital organ of the computer software, occupying a lot of place at the same time; while with the help of an external hard drive, such issues can be taken care of. These drives come with their own enclosure-case and the case is also portable enough, though it might be a little larger than the hard drive. Furthermore, these hard drives are connected to your computer or laptop with the aid of a high-speed interface cable. This is the very cable that takes care of passing the data to and fro the drive and your PC. In other words, these external drives can be used as the ‘plug-and-play’ devices where the USB gets recognized the moment you plug it in and then access it just like you would access an internal drive.

Owing to its huge storage capacities and also its portability, these external hard drives permit the easy transfer of big size files to and fro your office and home. For another instance, you could also easily shift information from your laptop to the computer and vice-versa. Basically, if you ever need to carry your office work home, all you have got to do is utilize these ‘plug-and-play’ devices and move your data on your fingertips!

Yet another majorly important benefit of the external hard drive lies in its tremendous usage at homes. Quite naturally, there would be several members in a family using the same computer and in these cases, in order to avoid any unintended mishap, it is better to use an external storage gadget and protect your sensitive data from being hampered with. Any file or document that is important to you can be shielded from being corrupted, mishandled, misused or even lost! Remember, all applications and programs can be easily accessed with the help of the external drive and then unplugging it away to ensure that your data is safe and is with you.

Thence, the use of external hard drives has several benefits, irrespective of their size and price, simply because it keeps your valuable data safe!

The USB Pen Drive is an USB flash memory drive and can support up to 8 GB disc space. This is 5600 times more than a 1.44 MB floppy disk. A USB flash drive is a plug and play device. It is as easy as simply plugging into any USB port and the computer automatically detects it as another removable drive.

This done, it is possible to read, write, copy, delete and move data from hard disk to the pen drive and vice versa. It is also possible to play MP3 files, run applications, view videos or even take high quality digital photos directly from the pen drive.

Pen drives support flash ROM (EEPROM) for Insystem Programming. Through USB port, it is possible to change or update usb pen drive firmware anytime and anywhere. From security point of view, the pen drive can be used as a key to valuable information on the hard disk drive-without the key (the pen drive), the data is inaccessible.

The pen drive is very compact and easy to carry anywhere. It does not need any battery (for USB port), does not need any software or cables and is compatible with IBM PC /desktop and laptop computers with USB.

There are a variety of pen drives.

Pen Drive Professional: It has a high performance flash memory stick (USB 2.0) and performs up to Read 20 MB/ write 20 MB-the fastest in the world. It has integrated LED indicator, Boot function and Write /Delete Protection Switch with a weight of 22grams. The scope of supply includes a neck strip, USB cable and software CD with device drivers.

USB Pen Drive Mini: This is much as same as that of Pen drive professional’s technical specifications but comes with a key ring.

USB Pen Drive Micro: This has a security function with a shock resistance of 1000 grams (maximum).

USB Pen Drive Compact: It is available with 16 MB to 1 GB capacity durable solid-state data retention for at least 10 years with a weight of 20 grams.

USB Pen Drive HDD –2 GO: This has an ultra fast data transfer, compact and mobile light and robust aluminum housing with an approximate weight of 55 grams.

USB Pen Drive Business Drive: This is a removable memory drive capable of storing up to 4 GB which is approximately equal to 2000 floppy disks. The pen drive business drive does not need batteries or software or cable. Data transfer is 40 times faster which saves large files like movies in seconds.

PEN Drive Ivo Fr: It is an integrated solution of MP3 player, USB Memory storage, FM radio and digital audio recorder. It has the added advantage of using as a digital voice recorder.

Apart from these there are Pen drive MP3, Pendrive blue tooth and Pen drive camera.

 ]]>

Solid state drives have been around for many years, but recent technological changes have increased their viability and their popularity. At its simplest, a solid state drive is one that is built entirely out of semi-conductors, rather than a magnetic drive with moving parts. Originally, solid state drives referred to electronics that did not use vacuum tubes, but this definition is now outdated.

One commonly available form of solid state drive is a USB flash drive. These use the same kind of non volatile chip to retain information, even without power. However, these drives have different capacities and form factors from the solid state drives that are now beginning to enter the market.

* A flash drive is designed as an external piece of the computer system.

* A solid state drive is designed to be used inside the computer in place of magnetic hard drives.

On the outside, solid state drives don’t look any different from ordinary hard drives. That allows notebooks and desktop computers to use the solid state drive instead of a regular hard drive. They have the same dimensions as a conventional hard drive and use ATA or SATA interfaces in the same way as the drives we are all familiar with.

So, if these drives look the same and plug into computers the same way, why use them? The lack of moving parts in these drives gives them an advantage over conventional hard drive, which must use drive motors to spin magnetic platters and drive heads. The storage on a solid state drive is instead handled by flash memory, allowing less power to be used, data to be accessed faster and the drive to be more reliable overall.

Using solid state drives in portable computers is made much easier by their lower power use. Since they have no motors to draw power, they use a lot less energy than normal hard drives. While the portable computer industry has taken steps to address this, their solutions still use more power than a solid state drive. It consistently draws less power than either hybrid or traditional hard drives.

Faster data access is possible since the drive platter doesn’t have to spin up and there are no drive heads to move. That allows data to be read from a drive nearly instantly. There’s nearly a twenty percent improvement in the boot time of Windows on a solid state drive versus a standard drive. Reliability is also important. Since conventional hard drives are very fragile, being jarred can damage them. Solid state drives have no moving parts to be damaged, and can be used in computers that are meant to travel in rougher conditions.

Currently, the big reason these drives are not being used more widely, is cost. These drives have been available for a long time, but the cost of the drive would be equivalent to that of the entire computer they were installed in. Since these drives are growing more popular, price is going down, that suggests that solid state drives will soon be more readily available in forms other than USB flash drives.

To safeguard your data, you usually copy it to an external hard drive. But what if the external hard drive itself gets damaged? Needless to say that it would be such a disaster. The ioSafe Solo Disaster Proof External Hard Drive is what you need to ensure that this doesn’t happen to you.

It is world’s first high-capacity fireproof and waterproof external hard drive. With a 1 TB capacity, the ioSafe Solo Disaster Proof External Hard Drive lets you protect all your valuable data, be it personal or professional.

It uses a simple USB 2.0 interface and is compatible with PC or MAC like other external hard drives. But what sets it apart from the rest of the external hard drives is that, it makes use of several patented technologies like FloSafe air flow cooling, HydroSafe waterproof barriers, and DataCast fireproof insulation.

One major problem that electronic devices face is heating. But, the ioSafe Solo 1 TB External Hard Drive overcomes this problem by incorporating FloSafe cooling vent technology, DataCast endothermic insulation technology, and MirrorGuard technology, which shield the data from extreme heat. Even if there is a fire, your data will be safe.

The ioSafe Solo Disaster Proof External Hard Drive is also waterproof. It offers two different levels of protection – one is flood protection and the other, spray/splash protection. Both make sure that water does not damage your data. Not only does the patented water barrier technology HydroSafe offer water protection, it also helps dissipate the heat during normal operation.

Not just fire and flood, the ioSafe Solo 1 TB External Hard Drive also provides protection from theft and burglary. This fireproof and waterproof external hard drive can be bolted to the floor or locked with a cable and padlock. The best part is that, even with such top-notch features, the ioSafe Solo Disaster Proof External Hard Drive is extremely affordable.

All in all, the ioSafe Solo 1 TB External Hard Drive is a great way to keep your data safe and secure.
